Met Council to Release Anti-Displacement Plan for Blue Line Extension

MINNEAPOLIS – The Metropolitan Council announces it is collaborating to develop a draft Anti-Displacement Coordinated Action Plan.
The Anti-Displacement Coordinated Action Plan draft will identify “strategies and actions that prevent displacement and help communities build wealth,” according to the Met Council. These actions are included in the before, during, and after construction. The Met Council says the draft will published in the coming weeks. Once released, the Met Council says the draft marks the beginning of a “detailed roadmap to help our region navigate the human side of building a light rail line.”
Some of the actions listed in the draft include:
- Forgivable loans for small businesses to cover construction costs
- Growing affordable housing options
- A walk-in storefront to connect residents and business owners to services and other resources
- Expanding workforce programs so locals have access to job opportunities on the Blue Line Extension
After it is released, the draft will include other areas: relocation, environmental justice, cultural placemaking and station architecture, infrastructure improvements, right-of-way acquisition, safety design, and more.
