TORONTO – Major construction has begun on the new Lower Don Bridge for Ontario Line subway.

Located between the Corktown and Riverside communities, the Lower Don Bridge will carry passengers over the Don River. Previously, crews worked to clear the area, shift existing tracks, and relocate a watermain in 2023. The tracks were shifted “because the Ontario Line will run alongside GO Trains in the shared rail corridor in the area,” according to Metrolinx. This will ensure GO service will continue during construction.

Now that the area is cleared, crews can begin construction on the bridge’s east support structure by installing two concrete and steel piers. After the east side is completed, crews will move toward the west support structure. Metrolinx says this new subway line will reduce congestion and is expected to carry close to 400,000 passengers daily.
