SAN FRANCISCO – Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) announces it has rebuilt an escalator at Powell Street Station.
According to the release, the rebuilt escalator connects the platform to the concourse level. It marks the fourth platform escalator to have “more modern, reliable features at the showcase station.” As of reporting, there is one more escalator to be rebuilt at Powell St.
This comes as part of BART’s escalator replacement project. As part of the project, four downtown San Francisco stations are seeing a rebuilt escalator. Additionally, crews continue to build canopies at the four downtown stations. BART reports that after a canopy is complete, crews start work to replace old escalators “with brand new street to concourse units.”
